Adelie 16
Description
The Adelie 16 (also known as AD16) is a compact, trailerable pocket cruiser designed by Jacques Mertens-Goossens of Bateau.com, a company specializing in affordable CNC-cut plywood boat kits and plans for amateur builders. Introduced as an evolution of the smaller Adelie 14 (AD14), the Adelie 16 was created in response to builders' requests for a longer hull with more interior space while maintaining the simplicity and seaworthiness of its predecessor. It's designed for coastal cruising, day sailing, and occasional short offshore passages, such as crossing the English Channel or sailing to the Bahamas with a skilled skipper. The boat emphasizes ease of handling, safety features like unsinkability options, and minimalism, making it ideal for solo or couple use in varied conditions. Unlike the traditional lapstrake designs of Iain Oughtred (e.g., the Acorn series you've queried previously), the Adelie 16 uses modern stitch-and-glue plywood construction, which is quicker and more forgiving for beginners.
