Arctic Tern, Gunter Sloop

Description

The Arctic Tern is an 18'2" (5.54 m) glued lapstrake plywood double-ended beach boat designed by Iain Oughtred in the 1990s, inspired by Shetland yoals and his earlier Jeanie II. It’s built for sailing, rowing, or light motoring in coastal waters, offering a blend of elegance, lightweight construction, and seaworthiness for day sailing or camp cruising. With a balanced lug yawl rig, it’s lively yet forgiving, ideal for solo or small crews (2–4). A variant, the Sooty Tern (19'8"), adds stability and sail area.
