Douglas Mcleod 22
Description
The D&M 22 (also known as the Douglass & McLeod 22) is a classic American trailerable racer-cruiser designed by Sparkman & Stephens (S&S design #2090) as an International Offshore Rule (IOR) Quarter Ton class contender. Built by Douglass & McLeod (D&M) in Grand River, Ohio, from 1971 to 1972, it was the company's final model before a devastating factory fire ended production—only about 20–25 hulls were completed, making it one of the rarest S&S designs. Founded by Sandy Douglass (designer of the Thistle and Flying Scot) and Ray McLeod, D&M specialized in fiberglass one-design racers before pivoting to this IOR-inspired pocket cruiser, which balances speed with modest accommodations for coastal racing or weekend hops. Its quirky IOR-era aesthetics (wide beam, bubble cabin) set it apart from contemporaries.
