Fixer-Upper Sailboats
The Neglected boat you save may become your own
If you're looking for an affordable good old boat that needs major fixing up, you've come to the right place. We're helping marinas and neighborhoods get rid of the abandoned sailboats in boatyards and back yards (who knows? maybe even in brickyards -- that's where the Allied boats were once created). We're looking for abandoned, deteriorated sailboats in need of a new dreamer to turn them into a dream boat once more. So if you know of one, get in touch! And if you're interested in one of those listed here, follow your heart and follow up. Call the number listed.
Have something to add? Contact us. There's no charge to list a fixer-upper. But you must be selling it for $5,000 or less. Please let us know whenyour boat goes to a good home and we'll remove the listing.
There's no fee for the buyer either. We just want to help you find the boat of your dreams.

1961 Whitby Continental 25
- Length: 25 feet
- Price: $500 USD
- Email: Vickysnice@aol.com, Vicky Youngaitis
- Location: New York State
I need to sell my '61 25' Whitby Continental. She's a super-strong, beautifully designed (Carl Alberg) sloop, meant for ocean racing. The hull/deck/cabin are completely solid. She's missing mast and rigging; one of the plywood bunk supports has a rotted section (they let rainwater accumulate); I'm repairing part of the cockpit coaming. Includes her mooring spot until Dec. I'll sell a fiberglassed wooden dinghy for an additional $200.00, to go with her. See a couple of old photos below.
I sold it about 2 years ago, but the couple abandoned it (and the dinghy I loaned them!) without letting me know. Now, she's legally back to me, and I can't afford proper storage. I'm restoring an old 1945 NA/LA, and have no idea what NA/LA stands for. Even NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles doesn't know what the abbreviation means any more.

Swing Keel Trailor Sailor. Sweet boat in good condition--except for hull leak, discovered on launch this spring. Likely crack at keel swing bolt after trailering, needs hull repair. Hull/deck/rigging/3 sails in good condtion. 5 hp Merc OB recently serviced. Great first-boat day sailer, and snug V-berth room for two. Photos on request. Will deliver San Antonio to Gulf Coast.
1980 Hunter 27
- Length: 27 feet
- Price: $4,750 USD
- Email: m_sails@msn.com, Myron Ward
- Location: Solomons, MD
1980 - Hunter, ready to sail. The boat comes with all standard equipment needed to sail plus some extras. Upgrades are pedestal wheel steering and roller furling. Major alteration done some years ago by a previous owner: inboard diesel removed and replaced with a 15 HP, Mercury Mariner. Good bay sailor and overnighter. Buy now and enjoy fall sailing on the Bay.
Boat is not so much a fixer upper as a good old boat that is ready to go...with the knowledge that there will always be something to do to make it better. Sails are well used but still serviceable. The boat has been enjoyed and well cared for over the past several years, job changes and relocation's force decision to sell. Times force price.

1978 Oday 25
- Length: 25 feet
- Price: $3,500 obo, boat & trailer
- Email: misailor28@yahoo.com, Ryan Craig
- Location: Harrison Township, MI (48045)
I am selling my Oday 25. It is a 1978. Hull is in decent condition. No soft spots on the deck or hull. It is a good starter boat for a family looking to get into a cruising boat. Sails: 150 Genoa - hank on, 100 Jib - hank on, Mainsail. Knotmeter, Depthsounder, VHF radio. New this spring: Bulkhead mounted compass, Stereo/CD player and cockpit mounted waterproof speakers, electric bilge pump with float switch. Dual axle Trailer with surge brakes. Spring in coupling needs to be reattached for them to be functional.
I have a new this spring a 2009 Mercury 9.9hp 4stroke long shaft engine with electric start and generator that I am willing to negotiate for, or I will sell it separately from the boat. It has about 10 hours on it and cost $2800 new. Otherwise, there are many used outboards that will work with this boat available. Please write back if interested.

Neglected 1980 Hunter 27. Purchased last year but being my first boat is too big a project for my meager skills. New standing rigging but needs Roller furling, jib and forestay. Perkins Diesel. New Compass. Cushions steam-cleaned and reupholstered in blue Sunsail cloth with piping. Here's a 4-page PDF file of the boat's specifications.
1969 Albin Vega
- Length: 27 feet
- Price: $1,500 USD
- Email: David Kojen <kojen@solismaris.com>
- Location: Groton, Massachusetts
This 1969 Vega sloop, hull number 377, has been neglected for several years. It is on trailer designed for road use. Tires are original, and therefore are very old. With a beam of 8 feet it is legally trailerable without special permits. Displacement is 5500 pounds. It would need a thorough restoration, and it is up to the buyer to determine restorability potential. This applies to the trailer as well. SOLD AS IS. Deck-stepped mast. I recently unfolded the sails and examined them. They appear to be in surprisingly ok condition - probably usable (my opinion - not fact). Only the main has one dime-sized hole - probably insect damage. But that appears to be the only hole.
For many more pictures, please go to http://mysite.verizon.net/~solismaris/vegaforsale/fIndex.html. All reasonable offers will be considered.
