US Sailboat Show

We just returned from the US Sailboat Show in Annapolis where we found many Good Old Boat readers enthusiastic about their boats and optimistic about the future. This show was our best to date as measured by how many new and renewing subscribers stopped by the booth to say hello and extent their subscriptions. I can’t tell you how many of them said that Good Old Boat is the only sailing magazine they are still getting!

2010…?

At this time of year, publishers and managing editors of sailing magazines are eyeing the New Year and sitting with their crystal balls trying to determine what the future will be. What is 2010 going to be like? Are we going to have to make more changes? How much can we raise our ad rates and not lose more advertisers? Who can we afford to cut from our staff? How many more pages of content can we drop before our readers realize they are just getting an advertiser’s pamphlet?

At Good Old Boat, we are very fortunate that the founding editors, Karen and Jerry, chose a magazine model that delivers lots of content and, as a result, has developed a strong and loyal readership that is weathering this lull in the economy quite nicely. Yes, we cut a few pages at the beginning of 2009, but that allowed us to go to a full color magazine and reduce our shipping costs.

Those cost cutting efforts and a very loyal readership have kept Good Old Boat financially strong, to the point of being able to say, we are continuing the same advertising rates in 2010. For those of you who are counting, that means our ad prices are the same as they have been since 2008.

How many investments which help you make money, cost the same as they did 3 years ago?

Good Old Boat magazine is the best value for your advertising dollars in 2010. Give me a call at 612-605-8319 or shoot me an email Michael at GoodOldBoat.com and we will work something out that works for you.

Cheoy Lee - Zephyr

A Cheoy Lee with character

by Don Casey

“The Hortons moved aboard Zephyr. They removed the teak deck, which included moving Zephyr’s anchors to the bow and removing an anchor well. They installed stainless davits. Another early modification was the installation of 12-volt refrigeration. Surmising that he would need to add insulation, Bruce cut an opening into the space behind the settee to gain access. This led to seven more openings and new storage compartments. One of these compartments houses a small watermaker.”
